Are you new to the university and don’t yet have an overview of all aspects of student life? On this page you will find everything you might be interested in.

The physics building/middle cross building (1.), with our student council on the second floor, is quite centrally located on campus and is therefore well connected.
Both the Zentralmensa/Mensaria (2.) and the Departmental Library of Natural Sciences (3.) are practically next to the cross buildings.
On campus you will also find the Institute of Nuclear Physics (4.) with our in-house particle accelerator and the Faculty of Natural Sciences (5.) with the Institute of Atmospheric Physics.
The Central Library (6.) or the Botanical Garden (7.) could also be interesting if you are looking for other places to study. The closest stops to the physics building are Hochschule/Campusbrücke (8.) and Friedrich-von-Pfeiffer-Weg (9.).
You can also find out more about general connections to the university by bike, car or public transport here.
Do you still have no idea what your (student) life will be like here in Mainz, as you may be coming from further away? Or are you unsure about things like finding accommodation and leisure activities in Mainz?
Here you will find some things that might interest you.
Once you have successfully enrolled, you will receive an invitation to the 3-week mathematics bridge course
(also known as the preliminary course) by email. Although this is not compulsory, it is highly recommended.
Don’t be fooled by the name, it mainly serves to make contacts and familiarize yourself with the student council before you start your studies.
For this purpose, an extensive freshman program is also offered. So don’t worry if you don’t understand everything straight away in the bridge course. You are not expected to!
In the last week of the bridge course or one week before the start of the semester, the more well-known Fresher’s Week for all degree programs takes place. Every semester, our student council organizes the freshman trip with the chemistry student council.
In addition, we also offer a mentoring program with students from higher semesters for more insights into studying. Everyone is welcome to sign up at any time. Find out more here.
Here you will find further useful links to the university’s study-related offers.
We hope we were able to help you a little and look forward to meeting you at the student council next semester!
